Labor Advocate Jeannine Pearce to run for Long Beach council seat

Long Beach Press Telegram, by Andrew Edwards - July 28, 2015

Labor advocate Jeannine Pearce has announced her candidacy for the 2016 City Council election. She is the second person in the 2nd District to throw her proverbial hat into the ring.

Pearce, 34, is an organizing director for Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy and the former director of Long Beach Coalition for Good Jobs and a Healthy Community. The latter group may be best known in Long Beach for its support of Measure N, which elevated the minimum wage for employees for large non-union hotels.

“I think I’ve dedicated my life to bettering the lives of working people and this is an extension of that,” she said.

If elected, Pearce said her priorities would include increasing residents’ access to local government and supporting the growth of the downtown tourism industry.
